What are the rules for using this website?

Plain terms, so that nobody has to guess. If a study is being run for you, it has its own written terms, and these do not replace them.

Terms of use, version 1.1, updated 9 October 2026. About seven minutes to read.

The short version

  • You may quote and share our evidence. Credit us and the original source.
  • The evidence pages give information, not advice. Check the source before you rely on a figure.
  • We correct errors in the open. If you find one, tell us.
  • Sending a brief does not create a contract. A study starts only with written terms.
  • Nigerian law applies.

What can you do with our evidence?

Most things, with credit. This table is the short answer. Sections 3 and 4 are the full one.

Yes, without asking

  • Quote a figure or a passage, with credit.
  • Link to any page, or share it.
  • Reuse a chart, a table or a whole brief, in free or paid work, with credit.
  • Translate or adapt our text, with credit, saying what you changed.
  • Cite us in a proposal, a paper or a news story.

Ask us first

  • Use our name or logo.
  • Use a photograph of a person.
  • Reuse a figure we took from another source: ask its owner, and cite them.

No

  • Suggest that we endorse you or your work.
  • Change a figure and present it as ours.
  • Drop the date, source or label from a figure.
  • Use our name to mislead people, or pretend to be us.

1. Who runs this site?

This site is run by Probatio Africa, a company registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission and based in Lagos (“we”, “us”). These terms apply when you use the site. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.

We may act for other people in a study, and when we do, the written terms for that study apply to it (see section 6).

2. Using the evidence on this site

  • Information, not advice. The evidence pages, cards and briefs describe what published sources say. They are not legal, financial, medical or policy advice.
  • Every figure has a source, a date and a label. The label says how much weight the figure can bear. When credible sources disagree, we show each one. Please read the source before you rely on a number.
  • It is only as current as its date. Each page says “Evidence as of” a month and year. We review every quarter.
  • We work from other people’s data. We choose sources with care, and say where we could not. We are not responsible for mistakes in a source, but we will correct our own.
  • We do not sell, and we do not endorse. A page that names a programme or an organisation does so to report what the evidence says, not to recommend it.

If you find an error, write to enquiries@probatioafrica.com. We correct it, and note the correction and its date at the foot of the page.

3. Reusing our content

Our own text, charts and data tables are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). You may copy, share, translate and adapt them, for any purpose, including in paid work, as long as you give credit. Where a page says otherwise, the page wins. The licence does not cover our name, our logo, photographs of people, or figures we took from other sources.

Whatever the licence, please:

  • give credit, and say if you changed anything;
  • do not suggest that we endorse you or your work;
  • do not use our name or logo as if you were us;
  • keep a figure’s date, source and label with it, where you can.

Figures, charts and photographs from other sources belong to their owners. Cite the original source. Photographs of people are used with their consent, and may not be reused without ours. To ask for something in the “ask first” column, use the form below.

In the law: the Copyright Act 2022, which allows some uses of a work without permission, and protects the rest.

4. How to cite us

Probatio Africa (year). Page title. Evidence as of month and year. Web address. Accessed day month year. For example: Probatio Africa (2026). Education. Evidence as of October 2026. https://probatioafrica.com/sectors/education. Accessed 7 October 2026.

If you quote us, give the date and the source of the figure, and link to the page. If a figure of ours is used in a way that misleads, we may publish a correction, and we will tell you first where we can.

5. Sending us a brief

A brief is a request for a conversation. It does not commit either of us. If we work together, we agree written terms first: scope, timeline, budget, who owns the data, who can see it, and when and how findings are published. We do not start fieldwork without them.

If your brief is confidential, say so at the top, and tell us before you send anything more. We can sign a confidentiality agreement first. We tell you at the start if we have a conflict of interest, and we may decline. What you send is handled under our privacy notice.

6. Studies, contracts and consent forms

When we run a study for you, the written terms for that study govern the work. When you take part in a study, your consent form governs your part in it, and these terms do not reduce any right it gives you.

If the study terms or the consent form disagree with these terms, they win.

8. Using the site properly

Please do not send harmful code, try to break or overload the site, use our forms to send spam or someone else’s details, or pretend to be us or anyone else. Anyone contacted in our name who is unsure should check the Verify page. Reasonable automated access to public pages, for example by search engines, is fine. If you plan to collect data from the site at scale, tell us first.

Found a weakness in the site? Tell us at privacy@probatioafrica.com. Give us reasonable time to fix it, do not look at anyone else’s information, and do not disrupt the site. If you act in good faith, we will thank you, and we will not take action against you.

9. What we are, and are not, responsible for

We take care with this site, but we do not promise that it will always be available, free of errors or up to date. To the extent Nigerian law allows, we are not responsible for a loss that comes from relying on the site or from a link to another site. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited, for example for fraud, or for death or personal injury.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We date them, number each version, and list every change in the version history below. A change that affects what you may do takes effect 14 days after we publish it, and we tell you before then. The version history is at the foot of this page, and earlier versions are available on request.

11. Which law applies, and what if there is a problem?

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you have a problem with us, please write first. We will answer in writing within ten working days, and try to settle it before either of us goes further.

12. How do you reach us?

Write to enquiries@probatioafrica.com, or call or WhatsApp +234 905 178 1117.
